SMT Challenge Day 14

The 80/20 Rule Of Social Media Marketing For Traffic

You’ve likely heard of the Pareto Principle. This is also known as the 80/20 rule. It basically means that 80 percent of any result comes from 20 percent of the work. You can use this idea to your advantage when using social media marketing for traffic. This is good news for people who become uncomfortable about promoting all the time.

You can see this play out in large communities where only a small portion participates in discussions compared to how many members they have. You may have even seen it within your own marketing where 20 percent or less of your audience converts to customers with any given campaign.

Identify Your Buying Audience

It’s a good idea to study the audience who is actively buying from you now. What is their demographics and what are their pain points? Do more marketing toward this type of audience instead of the 80 percent who aren’t engaging.

Keep Promotions to About 20 Percent

You don’t want to bombard your audience with promotions only. You want to provide a lot of value. In fact, 80 percent of the things you share with your audience should not be promotional in nature but educational and engaging. This is how you build trust so that when you do share something with a CTA they trust you enough to click through.

Offer Value 80 Percent of the Time

When you focus 80 percent of your effort on providing value to your audience it will build deeper relationships, spread awareness of your brand, and help the times that you do promote something go a lot more smoothly due to the value you add to every community in which you belong. What’s interesting is that when people realize the value of what you’re offering they’ll respond so much better.

Share Other People’s Stuff

You don’t want to only share your own content. You want to share other people’s content and information if it’s relevant to your audience. When you do this, you can become known as an expert in your niche simply because you’re good at picking information that your audience values.

Think of Oprah. When she started her show she was not an expert in anything. But, because she let experts use her platform to share, she became well thought of and as an expert and influencer because people valued her opinion since she made good choices on the experts she chose to share.

Comment & Like Often

Depending on how popular you are, you need to try to at least like comments that are made on the content you share. It would be better if you commented so that a discussion ensues. It gives you an opportunity to add more value.

The main thing is that you don’t want to be too self-serving. Post things of value from other people, share information that you know is relevant, comment when you can be helpful, like what other people say and share, and be part of the community as a whole and not just as someone promoting their wares.
